Sizing

The appropriate sizing of an instrument is essential to the development of proper posture and technical skill. Permanent faults in playing can develop as a direct result of improper sizing. Securing the correct size instrument is a serious matter. Finding the perfect fit depends on the overall size of the student, length of limbs, etc. and must be guided by a trained professional. The instructor will advise the correct size instrument for each student. Please consult your instructor prior to renting or purchasing an instrument.

Violin Sizing

The student’s teacher will situate the butt of the instrument snugly against the left side of the student’s neck. The student will then fully extend the left arm and maintain it parallel to the floor. In this position, the instructor will then measure instruments to the student, checking for the scroll to rest at the base of the palm.

With extended arm, scroll rests at base of palm.
